Many website owners apply to Google AdSense for monetization of their websites and have to wait for months to hear something from Google. In this post, I will talk about ways to check current status of Google AdSense application.
Verify Account Type
The first thing we have to do is to check AdSense account type. There are two types of accounts:
- Hosted account: A hosted account is the one where the content for monetization is residing only on Google sites such as YouTube, Blogger etc. For such an account, AdSense approval is automatic. However, ads may start appearing after some viewership threshold is achieved. For example, in case of a Youtube channel, one now needs a minimum of 1000 subscribers plus certain hours of watch-time for ads to turn up.
- Non-hosted account: A non-hosted account has everything a hosted account can have plus at least one site with host other than Google. This means if you have a WordPress website, then you need a non-hosted account on Adsense. A non-hosted account has to go through a review process before approval by AdSense. Once approval is received, ads will start appearing after few hours.
How to check Account Type
It is simple to check ones account type. Login to Adsense account and click on the last icon on top right as shown below. For a hosted account, there will a text ‘Hosted account’ written in red color.
If one finds out that he has a hosted account, then he has to apply to Adsense for conversion of the account to a non-hosted account for monetization of self-hosted websites. I will cover the process for this later. For a non-hosted account, I will next cover how to check account information to know approval status.
Account Information
In order to check account information, visit Settings->Account Information after login into Adsense. An approved non-hosted account will have mention of percentage(%) revenue share against ‘Content’ active product.
Once we have an approved non-hosted account, we can add any number of self-hosted websites to it and ads will start immediately on them. We can also see that under an AdSense account, we can have a number of types of active products like YouTube host (YouTube channel), content host( Google hosted sites like Blogger) etc.
Status Check
Now you are aware of type of your account and its status. Please visit page under My ads->Other products in your AdSense account to check the status of the application for non-hosted account. If review is in progress, then message will appear to reflect the same.
Message showing that review of site is under processIf no review is pending, then you can still visit My ads->Other products under the following cases:-
- to apply/reapply for approval for a self-hosted website (for example WordPress). This will also lead to conversion of a hosted account into non-hosted if approval is granted.
- to add a new self-hosted website to existing Account.
If you have not heard from Google for a long time, then I will suggest to reapply for AdSense approval using the above. Before applying ensure that you have around 60-70 new visitors per day on your site. There is no point in applying to Google with a very low number of visitors as Google will either reject or put the application in pending mode.
This was all I had for the topic. If you have any query/question related to your AdSense application, then feel free to contact me. Best of luck!

I checked it and found to be good. When it comes to Google Adsense approval, patience is the key. There is no fixed set of rules and it must be looking at lots of parameters. Keep hard working and surely one day you will see the approval.
Your post is very good, I have applied my website for Adsense. It’s been 12 days, but still no reply. Please check my “www.rnkhabri.com”
Hi Nikunj, it will take some time for approval to come. Meanwhile, you attempt to have at least 30 posts on your site with close to 500-1000 visitors per month.

Hi Divyanshu, you will not receive the approval so early. You have to build up your website, have sufficient number of posts/pages and visitors. Post that only, approval will come out of sudden.

Hi Nadim, generally Google has certain policy of not approving the adsense for certain type of content. You can refer such type of content at https://support.google.com/adspolicy/answer/6015406?hl=en. May be your site content is being interpreted along these lines.
I don’t know about others but many people are talking about a tool name Googleadsenseguru.com which helps the website owner checking their website for adsense approval and i have also checked it and my website got monetised from it
I am not aware about it. Anyway, good to hear your site getting monetised.

Nice article. But one query please. You have mentioned that “if you haven’t heard from Google for a long, then re apply for AdSense”… What is that waiting period tentatively?
Thanks. You can safely take 1-2 months. During that time, work on website to increase viewership.
Thanks for solving my problem I appreciate
You are welcome.
