1. Police Verification Initiation
We get an SMS when police verification begins for our passport. This means two things:
- Our passport is under granted status, and we will be issued an passport if police submit a clear report.
- We have to be ready for police to be on our doorsteps.
I like to mention that SMS is the only way by which PSK informs us about police verification initiation. That means, if we don’t opt for the SMS service, then we won’t get any notification about beginning of the police verification. Usually, police land to our doorsteps or contact us about 7 days from the SMS date. Due to the notification, we can better plan our travel, work, etc., so that we are present at our address when police visit us. In the absence of any notification, it may happen that a person is away from home when police visit his address and that may leads to adverse police report.
2. Police Report Submission
We get an SMS notification, with brief description, when police submit the verification report. If it is a clear report, then be ready to receive the passport. 🙂 If it is other than clear report, then start planning the next action depending upon the police remarks mentioned in the SMS.
3. Passport Printing Initiation
We receive an SMS when passport printing is initiated for our file. Our passport is now few days away from us. 🙂
4. Passport Printing Completion
When our passport is printed, we receive an SMS intimating the same. Now dispatch is only pending.
5. Passport Dispatch
Finally, we receive an SMS informing about dispatch of our passport. For tracking purpose, the SMS will contain a speed post tracking number. Using the tracking number on the India Post portal link, we can obtain current location of our passport. As passport is a sensitive document, one has to make sure that he/she is at the home address to receive it.
6. RPO Escalation or Passport On Hold
Sometimes a PSK may put a passport application on hold or forward it to the RPO(Regional Passport Office) to take decision. Generally passport officials avoid informing the applicant at the PSK that passport is being put on hold as they fear that he/she may argue with them. In such a situation, the SMS from PSK informing the same can be handy. We get an SMS within few seconds of any action taken by officials. Using that opportunity, we can politely ask, at the PSK itself, reasons for putting passport on hold. This will come handy in resolving the issue at RPO.

One can enroll for the service while filling online application. In case, if you have missed opting for it, then don’t worry. You can still enroll for the service when you are at a counter A of PSK on the appointment date.
Receipt for Passport Seva SMS Services
During online application, we are not required to pay the fee for the service. The fee has to be payed in cash at a counter A of the PSK on the appointment day and slot. After making the payment, we can ask for a receipt of the payment made. The persons manning the counters A are from a reputed company TCS and they will be ready to serve you better.
