In this article, I will provide all the steps needed to recharge the Delhi Metro card using Paytm. These steps are provided with relevant snaps for quick understanding.
Advantages of Paytm Recharge
There are several advantages of using Paytm or any other e-Wallet to recharge DMRC smart card. I will list out the following :
- It saves your crucial time to wait in line for your turn to recharge the card at smart card recharge counters at a metro station.
- Many times we are in a hurry, and at AFC (Automatic Fare Collection) gate, we realize that it is not allowing you inside as the card has less than Rs. 10 balance. At the same time, we find out that there is a long queue at a counter to recharge card 🙂
- No need to worry about change. Besides, one has more flexibility in paying an amount in multiple of Rs. 50 with e-Wallet but not at counter.
- Many people use debit/credit cards at counters to recharge Delhi metro smart card. It has a risk of fraud by some operators.
- Cashbacks are possible if we use some promocode during recharge.
Recharge Delhi Metro Card
The recharge process is a two-step process. First, we have to use the Paytm app to recharge the card and then update the physical card using AVM (Add Value Machine).
The second step is because your card has a memory chip containing info like balance amount, travel history, etc.
Step 1: Paytm Recharge
One has to have a running Paytm app on their mobile. We have to perform the following steps:-
Step 1a: Click on the search icon to locate the ‘Metro’ service.
Step 1b: Type ‘metro’ in the search box. A service named ‘Metro’ will be shown below. Choose it to go to the next step.
Step 1c: Select the metro as ‘Delhi Metro’ and move to the next step.
Step 1d: To recharge DMRC metro card, click on ‘Smart Card Recharge.’ It is to note that DMRC has an ‘Airport Express Line’ whose ticketing is done differently. This line was earlier with Reliance, and now DMRC manages it. One can use their metro card on this line. They can purchase separate QR ticket or trip pass for this line using Paytm.
Step 1e: Now, enter the card number present on the back side of the Delhi metro card. It is an 8-12 digit number. Click on the ‘Proceed’ button after that.
Step 1f: Select the amount to recharge. One can even manually enter amount in multiples of Rs. 50. I like to highlight that an ‘Apply Promocode‘ option comes on this page whenever Paytm offers some promocode-based cashback.
Step 1g: Now make a payment using any of the available methods.
Step 2: AVM Update
It is a white color small machine near a recharge counter of a metro station. Put your card in front of it, as shown here. Once we put the card correctly, the following screen will appear.
Choose the top-up option. If a valid top-up is available, then the following screen will appear.
Click on the green button. It will carry out the recharge and show the new balance. With this, the recharge process will get successfully completed.
